Well interestingly enough it was really the war that brought us out of the great depression. Many of the programs the government had to put people back to work were more or less temporary. But, when FDR came up with his lend/lease program to help England survive Hitler's attacks it put American factories back to work for goods being paid for by someone other than the US Government. Once the factories got ramped up again life in the US became much better until we actually had to enter the war ourselves. While we were at war Women and men unable to serve in the military continued to produce American goods that the rest of the world needed. The rest of the world continued to buy American made products for several years during reconstruction.
I think we didn't go into a depression because we loaned weapons to the Allies during the beginning of world war 2. The money we received after the war kept us out of a depression.
