Old age, disease, and man. Sometimes lions will take down a defenseless baby elephant that gets separated from its mother. That's a rather foolish undertaking, though, because elephants have been known to hunt the lions down and destroy them later.
Nevertheless, man is the number one threat to elephants.

∙ 11y agoItself. The antlers of the great Irish elk became too big for a bull elk to support and ended up starving to death or being easy prey because it either cannot raise its head to move around properly--let along graze or browse--or lower its head down because the antlers would be too heavy.
