Almost any healthy dog with a stable temperament can be trained to be a service animal, but some of the most commonly used breeds are: Labrador Retriever, Golden Retriever and German Shepherd. Lab/Golden mixes are also very popular, as they are usually friendly, docile, intelligent, easily trained, easy to care for, and strong enough to support a person in need or pull them away from danger.
Any kind of dog can be used. Usually mid sized dogs are chosen, preferably under 18 months old.
