As long as you put in African cichlids with them it should be okay. If you put a south American cichlid, with a African cichlid, they might attack each other because they are not from the same area of the world, and they have never seen them before.
I am assuming you mean can you dose or treat the water in an aquarium for Itch or white spot while a fish is spawning. I personally don't like or recommend using any kind of chemicals in a fish tank. If the fish does have Itch/white spot then I would use the raised temp method of destroying the infection.
