I suggest you should start with 1 male guppy and atleast 3 female guppies so they can reproduse. The less females you put the less amount of time they will live!

Does it effect Betta fish if you change the fish from a regular tank to a filter tank?

Betta fish will not be harmed if they are in a filtered tank. If the new tank is about the same size as the old tank you should use the old water or most of it in the new tank. If the new tank is larger so you have to add lots of new water then you should fill the new tank with the new water and let it sit (preferably with the filter running) for two or three days before adding the fish. Also when you move the fish make sure the new tank is at the same temperature as the old tank.

Are vaccinations recommended for fantail goldfish?

No, fish are not vaccinated. If you do buy a new fish, you should put them in a separate tank first before adding them to your main tank and treat them for possible parasites first; you can use a product such as Prazi for treatment. This should be done any time you have a new fish that you want to add to your established tank as it's easier to treat a 10 or 20 gallon tank with 1 fish in it than it is to treat a much larger tank with several fish (as one new fish can make your entire tank sick)

What do you do if you are going on a vacation for a few month and you have 3 fish in a 2.5 gallon fish tank no filter in new Orleans?

You should probably find them a new home and when the time comes to have fish again, you should buy a bigger tank and a filter. Three fish cannot properly live and survive in a 2.5 gallon tank - this is not even safe for a betta

Will new fish die if you only wait about 4 hours to put them in the tank?

Yes, very likely. The ammonia levels will be through the roof. Depending on the size of the tank, you should wait a minimum of 4 days before putting fish in a new tank and even then, you should put one or two fish in then wait 2 days and put another 2 fish in.

How long should I wait before transferring my fish to a new tank?

How long is a new fish tank considered mature?

For a freshwater tank, its safe to add fish after the the ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate levels are safe for fish. Ammonia and nitrite should be at 0 ppm and nitrate levels should be very low, under 50 ppm. You should also make sure that other parameters are safe for the species of fish that will be living in the tank.

Do you have to wait until the water levels have adjusted before you can put your boesemani rainbow fish in the tank?

Before releasing fish into a new tank you should always allow the temperatures to equalise to avoid shocking the fish.

What other fish are compatible with Oscars?

Other large, aggressive cichlids and fish such as Pacus and Jack Dempseys. Size and temperaments should be kept closely the same. Odd number of fish generally do better to help displace aggression. Tank should also be large enough to house these fish properly with enough territories. When adding new fish to an aggressive tank, feed tank fish first before releasing new fish. Also, turning aquarium lights off for the release also helps. The first few seconds of the fish entering the tank and swimming downward that are the most crucial.

You just got a new tank and all the fish in it died Should you emty it out and refill it before you put new fish in it?

No, leave the tank for several days, then get your water tested for ammonia and nitrite. Depending on the results, either get a FEW new fish, or let the aquarium run until the ammonia and nitrite are gone.

What do you do if the thermometer breaks in your fish tank?

Take the fish out, put it in a tempory tank. Go to the shops, buy a new one then come back and fit it. Answer 1 is not incorrect, but failed to mention that the tank in which the thermometer broke, and from which the fish were removed, should have the contaminated water discarded, and the tank and all accessories which were exposed to the thermometer contents, thoroughly cleaned and decontaminated BEFORE RETURNING the fish to that tank. j3h

How do you a tank?

when you clean a fish tank you should only do a 5 or 10% water change. You should wipe any algae off the glass, filter of objects in the tank using a new cloth as any soaps that get in the water will kill the fish. After this the water may be cloudy but the filter should clear this within a few hours. You should never do a 100% water change as this much change will overwhelm the fish and could kill them.

What is the maximum ammonia level that's safe to put new fish in a tank?

Ammonia levels should be at zero. Ammonia is never safe to have in an aquarium especially new fish. Transporting a fish generally causes some stress for them and with the addition of a water problem in their new home it could prove fatal. If this is a brand new tank it would be wise to cycle it fully before adding a fish.
