Diabetic should eat high protein low fat low carb low sugar foods.

No whites( no white bread, pasta, potatoes, etc)

No dairy

Lots of veggies and some fruits too

Avoid artificial sweeteners such as NutraSweet, sweet n low, etc. These are neurotoxins which can lead to nerve damage in the body and the brain. Many studies have been done that showed SOME people with MS or Parkinsons actually didn't have the disease, they were just slowly poisoned with the chemicals of the artificial sweeteners. Artificial sweeteners also lead to weight gain which is a precursor to Diabetes and can cause complications in diabetes.

Cinnamon supplement or plain cinnamon ( no sugar added) will help regulate insulin

B12 supplement will help prevent peripheral neuropathy ( tingling or numbness in hands or feet) which is common in diabetics.

Diabetics can eat any food, including candy and sugar. However, in order to control the blood sugar levels, diabetics should try to eat as many low-glycemic foods as possible ( examples are: french fries instead of mashed potatoes, cherries instead of watermelon...). There are many good books with the glycemic index listed in them for reference. Also to be avoided: alcohol, diet sodas, and fake sugars (Equal, Saccharin, etc.). The body does not recognize these chemical sugar substitutes for what they are and reacts to them as though you are flooding your bloodstream with extreme over-amounts of sugar.
