In California, drive up Interstate 5 north through Sacramento and you'll see the very same rice fields that US Army choppers used to drop US infantrymen off into (one could film a movie there). During a HOT SUMMER, take a drive along the swamps (called wet-lands in California) at Suisun Bay (part of San Francisco Bay) or Eureka (Humboldt County) or even Coronado (San Diego County) and you'll see the nippa-palm swamps of the Mekong Delta of South Vietnam; but make sure to do it on a VERY HOT DAY...other wise you'll lose those special effects of "misery". If it's legal, wade out in the mud up to your waist and try to cross to the other side...and stay out there until the next day. You'll get a better appreciation of what fighting in the swamps is like.

After leaving the Mekong Delta take a drive up into the base of California's Sierra Nevada Mountains, up to about 2,000 or 3,000 feet, take any dirt road that's legal (the Forest Service has new off road laws out now). Stay on them until your vehicle is covered with dust (dirt) inside and outside; stay a few days (camping, if it's legal). That'll be the Central Highlands of South Vietnam-Pleiku area (II Corps); as well as the Khe Sahn area of operations (I Corps).
