West Germany's government was the Federal Republic.
After World War II, Germany adopted a democratic government structure, resulting in the establishment of the Federal Republic of Germany (West Germany) in 1949, which was a parliamentary democracy. In contrast, the German Democratic Republic (East Germany) was established in the same year as a socialist state under Soviet influence. The reunification of Germany in 1990 solidified a single democratic government based on the principles established in West Germany.
West Germany, which was controlled by the three western powers, of the US, Britain and France was larger, then East Germany, which was controlled by the USSR.
Germany was divided into two countries. East and West Germany. Communist East Germany and Free West Germany.
It has a federal parliamentary government. This government was chosen under the direction of West Germany's occupiers, France, England and the USA.
West Germany no longer exists. With the fall of communism, and the East German communist govt. West Germany and East Germany combined in 1990 to form 'Germany'.
The eastern half of the country, which was occupied by Soviet forces, became the communist republic of East Germany, while the Allied zones formed West Germany. The city of Berlin was likewise divided, although it was well inside East Germany, and the capital of West Germany became Bonn. Germany was reunified (during the breakup of the Soviet Union) in 1990.
Both Japan and West Germany adopted a democratic government.
