From what I recall from my nutrition class, yes. I believe it is the tannic acid in tea that can reduce absorption of certain vitamins and minerals, namely iron. This applies to green or black tea; herbal teas such as chamomile, mint, hibiscus, etc will not contain tannins. A few of the many herbs that contain tannins are: Mate, Lavender, Guarana, Raspberry, and Bilberry. Herbs containing soluble fibre can also interfere with absorption of vitamins as well as pharmaceuticals. Herbs that contain this include Slippery Elm and Marshmallow.
Lemon zinger tea is typically a herbal tea made from a blend of lemon and other herbs, such as hibiscus or lemongrass. Since herbal teas generally do not contain tea leaves from the Camellia sinensis plant, they are naturally caffeine-free. However, it's always a good idea to check the specific brand or blend, as some may have added ingredients that could contain caffeine.
Real tea, that is tea brewed from the Camellia sinensisplant, contains tannin because the leaves of the plant from which tea is made contains tannin. "Herbal teas" (also known as "tisanes"),made from infusions of fruits or herbs may or may not contain tannin depending the nature of plant used, but most seem to contain tannin and in some instances the amount is greater than that of real tea. Lemon grass 'tea' is a tasty herbal tea that does not contain tannin if it is 100% lemon grass.
It all depends on the tea. Tea that comes from the tea plant, does contain caffeine. The highest caffeine content is in black tea. Green tea has less than that and white tea has the lowest quantity of caffeine of all. Herbal teas, on the other hand, are infusions made with herbs. Most herbs don't contain any caffeine, so herbal tea tends to be caffeine free.
