Typewriters use an inked ribbon which the keys hit against the paper, thus imprinting each letter on the page.
Typewriter ribbons are available from your local newsagent usually. Typewriter ribbons can come in plain black, or combinations such as black, red and green. The two knobs or wheels on either side of the key semicircle hold the ribbon and wind it one way or the other as typewriter ribbons will usually reverse direction once they get to the end as there is more than enough ink in them to cycle through them just once.
Re-inking ribbons with the cloth-saturating ribbon ink is a tricky process (and often messy). There are commercial re-inking services (far fewer nowadays than 50 years ago). Some specialty office supply stores may carry it.

To correct mistakes on a letter typed on a traditional typewriter, you can use correction fluid to cover the error and then retype the correct character over it. If the mistake is minor, you can also use a typewriter eraser to erase the character before retyping it. Be sure to let the correction fluid dry completely before continuing typing on the paper.
