Mount Etna erupted on December 14, 1991*I wrote this December 2, 2010
Mount Etna erupts because of plate tectonics. The African crust that is sinking near Etna tore, which let hot rock escape and break through the crust in Sicily.
Mount Etna is an active volcano located on the Italian Island of Sicily. It is in the Sicilian Apennine mountain range.
probably basaltic lava because the 2010 eruption was very explosive
stratovolcano
Both come out of Mount Etna. It is a composite volcano which means it alternates between erupting with pyroclastic material and lava.
mount etna is a strato volcano
Mount Etna has had both explosive and "quiet" eruptions and has produced lava flows, lava fountains, and pyroclastic flows.
In its most recent activity Mount Etna has erupted basaltic lava. These eruptions have been mildly explosive and produced glowing red lava flows due to the lava's relatively low viscosity.
Mount Etna looks like a volcano, the top is kind of slanted with a large crate on the top.
Nobody knows when Mount Etna was formed. Scientists are still trying to figure it out. Scientists estimate that Mount Etna has had eruptions for 2.5 million years. They also estimeate that the lava in Mount Etna is 300,000 years old. There is recorded history that Mount Etna has been erupting since 1500 BC.
Mount Etna is a stratovolcano that sits on a tectonic fault line. The fault line runs from the Lipari Isles over the east coast of Sicily to the Hyblean Mountains.
I visited mount Etna in 2008 and was mystified to find so many ladybirds at the top of the mountain clustered into the old cold lava. Can anyone tell me why they are there, and are they getting any mineral from the lava? Brenda Young.
The ginger bread man ran away and Mount Etna is angry
Mount Etna erupts several times a year. It has demolished villages and vineyards. The coastline has receded and advanced over the years due to the lava flow.
After two days of earthquake activity, on March 28, 1983, Mount Etna erupted. By April 23, 1983 the lava flow was 4 miles long.
