They don't. They have records of the info passed back and forth to it, but as to physical location, only the info on your account is what they see. If you visit family in another state and connection your computer there, they can see what server you connect to and that's recorded, but physical location depends on user records. There is info on a packet of data that tells what network card was used to generate this data, but they don't catalogs of who gets what card. If you are thinking CSI and such; they can tell if you dial-in by phone the number you dialed into and the address given to your machine by the network. If you connect to your families network, most likely your machine will not have it's own IP seen by the web, but the one of the router you connect to, so that machine is what they go looking for if you do something bad.
They use a special chemical but I don't know what it is called.
Luminol is used in most episodes of CSI as it detects the presence of blood.
Yes - crime scene investigators can find DNA. If there is blood, hair, skin, etc. they can obtain DNA. This can then be tested against suspects (or databases).
CSI inspectors analyze the size, shape, and distribution of blood droplets to determine the origin of blood splatter. By using specialized techniques, such as stringing and trigonometry, they can triangulate the area where the blood was shed. Additionally, they may recreate the scene using dummy models and blood spatter patterns to simulate various scenarios and determine the most likely source.
