A cup is a unit of VOLUME measurement (usually used by the US for cooking). In standard units of volume measurement (understood worldwide) 1 cup = 236.5 milliliters.

However, most everyday items are sold to you by weight, not volume and this is printed on the packet. Unfortunately there is no direct equivalence between units of volume and units of weight because to convert them you have to know the density of the substance (lead is denser than butter).
