In order to answer this question, I need more information from you -- feel free to add it to the DISCUSSION section if you wish. Answer the following quesitons first: * Where are we? In a building in Cincinatti? In a winter aid station in Antarctica? In the International Space Station? What are the geographical and climatilogical considerations? * How long will I have to sustain the patient without outside support? * How many patients are we going to aid from this box? * Are there special circumstances to take into account? (Am I on a leper colony where leprousy is a problem, or an epidemic site where I'll be seeing a lot of haemorrhagic fever? Am I in a cardiac care unit where cardio is the order of the day? A battlefield, where otherwise super-healthy people will show up with wounds?). I look forward to your input.

They usually contain basic bandages such as band aids. They also usually have some protection like rubber gloves. Mostly all of them have some kind of disinfectant for cuts. More advanced kits contain tweezers and scissors. There are a huge variety of materials that can be put in a first aid kit.

A first aid box should include sterile non-stick dressings; an assortment of adhesive dressings; gauze and elastic bandages and a triangular bandage to use as a sling. Adhesive tape is necessary as are scissors and tweezers. Disposable gloves should be present. A space blanket is small and light and will help conserve body heat. A bottle of normal saline can be used to clean wounds if there is no water available. Medications should include antibiotic cream and analgesics including aspirin. A small but powerful flash light is a useful addition. Specialty items can be added depending on the need for the kit, e.g. a snake bite kit for hikers where poisonous snakes are known to be.
