A Canon Rebel is an SLR camera. There are several different models in this family, but the modern ones are all digital cameras with detachable and changeable lenses for zooming, taking macro shots, fisheye photography and more. Canon is a reliable name in camera production and a Canon Rebel is a great choice for a photographer looking to expand beyond just point-and-shoot (although the Rebel is great for point-and-shoot as well, but it can go well beyond that).
