A person with an eating disorder is usually referred to by their disorder. For example, a person with anorexia is called an anorexic. A person with bulimia is called a bulimic. A person who suffers from binge-eating or compulsive-over-eating disorder are called binge or emotional eaters.
Many people who struggle with anorexia have perfectionist mindsets. They expect a lot of themselves and, although they try to be flexible with others, are often disappointed by others. There is a common tendency for people with anorexia to not feel truly heard or seen by significant others in their lives. People with anorexia tend to be compassionate toward others, yet extremely hard on themselves. Restricting from food is often fueled or motivated by a critical voice warning them of the dangers of eating, such as losing control, "getting fat," not being desirable, "letting themselves go," etc. Those who struggle with anorexia are extremely motivated individuals and usually attempting to regulate their emotions by restricting food.
Anorexia can affect any person of any race, gender, age, and so on.
