In Germany, Protestant men, usually ages 18-30s, but near the end of the war, the line was blurred, and men as young as 14 and as old as 60 fought. In America, men of color fought in separate regiments, as well as Japanese men. In other countries, as in Germany, it was men aged 18-30s that fought.
