Yes you should be proud of being gay. Be proud of yourself for being a kind, understanding considerate person to others, not because of your sexuality. You are who you are so be proud of it.
It depends on whether you like the person or not. If the person is someone you don't like or who is unpopular, and everyone else does it, then it isn't rude because that's the kind of person where it's okay to "be rude". If the person is popular, or you like that person, then no-- it's not okay.
It means to respond or act in a similar manner as someone else. So if a person is rude to you, you would be rude back at them.

If you have a good reason for asking, it's probably not rude. "Old" person? over 80 is old to me and those folks are usually proud that they've made it that far and don't mind answering. Between 25 and 80 folks can get sensitive about it. That's probably because they don't like to think of themselves as "getting older", just "getting wiser". Don't go there unless you know the person well or have a very good reason for asking. most people say it is rude to ask someone older than you of their age, but i think otherwise. it wouldn't be rude at all if you asked him/her with respect...
