The migration route for a monarch butterfly is when they travel to a warmer place during the winter. They can travel up to 6,000 miles on their little fragile wings.
Water, fruit, leaves, fresh air, Grass sunlight or some sort of bright lighting.
Monarchs as i heard migrate from Canada then travel all the way to the gulf of Mexico.while monarchs are traveling, they stop and have at least 2 or 3 generations of life. With this the monarchs die and the new generation takes it's place and does the same.
The monarch butterfly typically lives in a variety of habitats, including fields, meadows, and gardens with plenty of flowers for nectar. While they can tolerate dry conditions, they rely on access to water sources for hydration.
The caterpillars morph from a caterpillar into an adult butterfly but as adults, very little change takes place.
The zoo would be the only place. Monarch butterflies like warm weather and native to Mexico and South America. They migrate in the spring to California Monterey groves. I can't imagine that they would survive through the winters in NYC without protection.
The place where butterflies are kept is called a conservatory. Most conservatory's feature thousands of butterflies from all over the world. The climate-controlled conservatory's showcase the butterflies in natural settings, such as a tropical rainforest.

Butterflies are important in the rainforest because they help to move pollen from place to place. This allows many different kinds of plants to be fertilized, insuring a new generation of plants.
In temperate zones, birds migrate in response to the seasons. Food is generally more abundant in the wet and warm times of year, the spring and summer, and birds travel north to feed. In the winter, though, northern climates are food-poor, so the birds have to go south to find food. If all the migrating birds stayed either in the north or south for too long, they would run out of food.
