Green Eggs and Ham is a story written by Dr. Seuss. The plot is based around the character Knox, from Fox with Socks. The other character is Sam, who tries to get the Knox character to eat green eggs and ham, but he refuses to try the dish in every single location, from the most mundane, to the most outlandish that this culinary dish is offered to him in. Finally, after his [Knox'] boat is sinking, he agrees to Sam's offer if it means Sam will leave him alone. Upon tasting the delectible dish, Sam realizes that he loves it! Dr. Seuss wrote the story to teach children about the wonders of trying things one hasn't tried before. Once one tries a nourishing or positive thing while one is literally or figuratively under water, nothing else will surpass the immense happiness and peace of mind one will feel at that moment. The moral of the story is that when someone tells you to try something, always say yes, because in the end you may even enjoy it or be glad you explored it!

Through the journey of Sam-I-Am and his friend, the story conveys the message that you might end up liking something you never thought you would if you just give it a try.

On one level the message could be not to judge a book by it's cover (don't decide you don't like something because of it's looks), but in truth Green Eggs and Ham was written when "Dr. Seuss" took on a bet from his editor to write a book using only 50 words. He won $50 and wrote the 4th best selling children's book of all time.
