A meteorite is a piece of rock that strikes the earth's surface.
The object that does work on the rock as it falls is called the force of gravity. Gravity pulls the rock downward toward the center of the Earth, causing it to accelerate as it falls. This force is a result of the gravitational attraction between the rock and the Earth.
