It is probably a jumping spider, at least that's what I've been told. I just found one today in my house and called the spider spray guys! I have it in a jar to show them, they are coming tomorrow. If I find out it is something other than a jumping spider I will let you know.

Look carefully at the spider to see if it is black with a white marking on its back. Also, if the spider is jumping around this is another big sign that the spider you are looking at is a bold jumping spider. These Spiders are aggressive and spunky, with a bite that hurts but lacks any dangerous poison.
Without seeing an image, I can only guess that it may have been a jumping spider (family Salticidae) such as Phiddipus audax - see http://nathistoc.bio.uci.edu/spiders/Paudax.htm for an example. This spider can deliver a painful (but not dangerous) bite if mishandled.

My guess is that this spider you saw was either a Jumping Spider (quite possibly a Daring Jumping Spider) or a Parson Spider.

Sounds like a "Spotted Ground Swift Spider"http://www.geocities.com/brisbane_spiders/Corinnidae.htm
I just caught a spider that matches this description. After looking online, I think it may be a jumping spider from the family Salticidae. I believe that spider is Phidippus Audax a.k.a the Bold Jumping Spider.
There are many different kinds of spiders that are brown with white spots. To properly identify them, it helps to determine if the spots are in any particular pattern, the overall body shape of the spider, and where it is living. Such a spider may be a sic-spotted fishing spider, a bold jumping spider, or an orb-weaving garden spider.

From what I have been told, this sounds like an Orb Spider...which is in the Widow Family and is extremely venomous.
