When a photon of light hits a mirror it cause the electrons in the mirror's atoms to vibrate and give off identical photons of light. Metals work better as mirrors because they have a large number of electrons shared by their atoms. The atoms in other reflecting surfaces, such as glass, do not share their electrons as readily. Mirrors need to be smooth so that the reflected light goes straight back to its origination instead of being scattered in many different directions.

With these conditions in place, light striking your face will be reflected towards a mirror in a state modified by the characteristics of your face. The mirror will in turn release an exact replica of the light photon back towards you, which will be absorbed and processed by your eyes and brain, and you will then create the image of your big smiling mug by the actions your mind perform to analyze light particles.

The reflectiveness of a material is dependent on its surface roughness. A material with a very good polish will be more reflective than a material with a poor polish. For instance, most chunks of rock you encounter are unreflective. They have generally been broken off a larger chunk of rock, and that broken surface has a lot of topography (roughness). If you were to polish that rock so that there were very few imperfections in the surface it would eventually be so reflective that you can see you reflection in it.

Reflectiveness depends on surface roughness because of scattering. Waves of light first bounce off the object whose reflection you're trying to see (in this case your face), then bounce off of the reflecting object (in this case a rock), and then enter you're eye. If all the waves are precisely reflected from the rock, then they will preserve the image or your face. If there is any surface roughness, then waves will be reflected in many different directions (scattered) and that image with be destroyed.

How do we see things in light?

What is a reflection?

A reflection is something, such as light, that is reflected from another object. Light, sound and other forms of energy that travel in waves can be reflected from different things. We're probably most familiar with the reflection of light. If we look in a mirror, we see whatever objects are emitting or reflecting light into the mirror at an angle from the "vertical" or "straight on" direction (the normal), but on the opposite side of the angle we are looking into the mirror from. What is the importance of irregular reflection?

due to the irregular reflection,we are capable to see things without irregular reflection like in the case of mirror you will just see the of the object from which the ligth comes...for example the light scatters from the page of book is irregular reflection..if these were not you will not be able to read from the page rather you would see image from which the light comes and all on page

What are examples of reflection of light in daily life?

that's a fact : u're to things ... coz of reflection of light and the best example could be wen u see moon at nights u're actually being able to see it coz...of reflection of light from the sun............

How has the phenomenon of reflection of light changed the world you live today?

We can see things. Otherwise we could only see light sources.

Why cant you see your reflection in all objects that replect light?

You cannot see your reflection in all objects that reflect light because of diffuse reflection.

Why can't you see your reflection in all objects that reflect?

You cannot see your reflection in all objects that reflect light because of diffuse reflection.

What are the phenomenon of light in nature?

It travels fast, in a straight line. It it released by some chemical reactions, not just fire, like in a lightning bugs tail. It is absorbed by some things and reflected by others. Reflection is how we see the moon.

You cannot see your reflection in all objects that reflect light because of diffuse reflection.
