Calves are usually pretty thrifty, but they're better off being born in warmer temperatures than -35 C winters but cooler temperatures than the middle of July. If they're born in the winter, you MUST have shelter and deep straw for them to lay in as soon as they get up, otherwise they will freeze to death.
