During the Civil War, the US Miullitary uniform was white pasnts and shirt of linnen, covered by navy blue wool pants and coar, and then a navy blue greatcoat on top of that, with slight variations based on the branch of service,m such as the artilleryman's red undershirt or marine's white pants.
