well really all what it does is pick up metal bits off of cars or other things that are magnetics and than you cane move it to were you want to :)
1. Scrap yards sometimes use it to lift heavy pieces of MAGNETIC materials e.g steel. 2. In speakers they use electro-magnets so the speaker can actually play the sound. It is used in the speakers diaphragm. 3. In hospitals to remove magnetic particles from a patients eye after a accident. hope this helps!!Lucy:)
You can turn electromagnets on and off.

Inside of electric motors are electromagnets and permanent magnets. In a metal junk yard large electromagnets are used to pick up metal. In MRI's large electromagnets are used for imaging.
Electromagnets can be turned on and off.
They use electromagnets to separate magnetic metals from non-magnetic metals/materials in scrapyards.
electromagnets
Usually in junk-yards handling scrap iron and steel. Only problem is some steel alloys- like stainless, are non-magnetic not attracted to the electromagnets.
Rather than "permanent" magnets, the large electromagnets used in junkyards only create a magnetic field when electric current flows through them. They are used to lift iron and steel scrap, and to separate it from non-magnetic scrap. The cranes have an electric generator connected to a wire coil in the large round lifting disc. When the power is on, its magnetic field attracts heavy iron and steel to it. When the scrap is positioned where they want it, they cut the power to the electromagnet and the scrap drops. They are attached to cranes and are used to lift up heaps of scrap metal
There are a few methods available for finding a local scrap yard in your area. You could use your local Yellow Pages to find scrap yards closest to you. You can also find local scrap yards using the iPhone app called iScrapApp.
Electromagnets are used in places like scrap yards! to separate metals
The types of things that can be found in a scrap yard depend on the type of scrap yard it is. Many scrap yards deal with just automotive scrap so one would find spare parts for cars there. Other scrap yards deal with just metals such as copper.
fire bells tv's junk yards and a lot more
all destroyed in scrap yards
yes
A vehicle that has been totaled can be sold for scrap and parts through junk yards or scrap metal yards. Also there are several businesses that will pay a small amount of money to take the scrap from a totaled car.
The only salvage yards in San Antonio that I could find that buy scrap metal were Newell Salvage, River City Steel, and Ashley Salvage. For their locations I would simple yellowbook the address and while there could look for more salvage yards that buy scrap metal.
