The Appalachian Mountains in the eastern United States were as high as the Rocky Mountains of the western United States are. Rain, snow, and wind slowly wore them down into much lower peaks.

Erosion can make canyons, v-shaped valleys, meanders, etc.

Deposition can make oxbow lakes, deltas, beaches, etc.
