The Lewis and Clark Expedition, also known as the Corps of Discovery Expedition (1804-1806) was the first transcontinental expedition to the Pacific Coast undertaken by the United States of America. This expedition was commissioned by Thomas Jefferson and was led by Meriweather Lewis and William Clark.
The objective to this expedition was scientific and commercial-- to study animals life, areas plants, and to explore new land regions and land masses, to learn how the region could be economically exploited.
