The only thing that surrounds Antarctica is the Southern Ocean. The Southern Ocean is the fourth largest ocean in the world at 20,327,000 sq km. Its deepest point is the South Sandwich Trench at 7,235 metres. What is now the Southern Ocean was previously the southern most portions of the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Oceans. The Southern Ocean incorporates the Amundsen Sea, Bellingshausen Sea, part of the Drake Passage, Ross Sea, a small part of the Scotia Sea, Weddell Sea, and other tributary water bodies.
