The purpose of the Neutrality Acts was to keep the United States out of involvement with the upcoming war in Europe.

Many children were sent to America during World War 2 to keep them safe. Written letters were sometimes used to keep in touch with their relatives back in Europe, but frequently these children had no form of contact with their families at all. Many of them never saw their parents again.

The United States went through a period of isolationism between 1937 and 1945. During this time, the isolationists tried to keep the country out of the war in Europe. They wanted the country to focus on itself not the world.
