It started with the people of the area where present day Haiti is. The Haitians revolted against Napoleon Bonaparte. The Haitians won. Napoleon owned the Louisiana Territory. The only the French had the Louisiana Territory was to feed the Haitians. They no longer needed the Louisiana Territory so, in order to get more money for war the French sold the Louisiana Territory to the United States. Lewis and Clark were sent out to meet the people that lived on the land and find out what the land looked like.
