The war in Afghanistan seems to have been going on for the longest time. US soldiers were first sent into Afghanistan after the Russian pulled out of Afghanistan. The first US soldiers entered Afghanistan in 2001.
The attacks of September 11, 2001, led to the declaration by President George W. Bush that the US was involved in global "war on terror" (war on terrorism). The US efforts to act against known terrorists led to the ongoing War in Afghanistan (2001) and the War in Iraq (2005, occupation continues).
US never been in Afghanistan but US troops were about 10 years
The US invaded Afghanistan in an attempt to wage war on terrorism, as Afghanistan is a hub for terrorists. The US is not at war with Afghanistan, but is working with the country to fight terrorism and keep Afghanistan out of terrorist hands. The same ideology was behind the Iraqi War.
The US led Coalition in Operation Enduring Freedom, in Afghanistan, is an ongoing military campaign, that commenced in 2001. And is a direct result of the September 11, 2001 attack.
True: In 2001, the US military dropped 2.4 million Pop Tarts in Afghanistan during the United States War in Afghanistan.
The US invaded Afghanistan in 2001!
We invaded Afghanistan and declared war on Al Quaeda.
US Civil War 1861-1865. Operation Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan) 2001 to present. But there is a difference! The US Civil War was fought against an illegal nation; the Confederate States of America. But this "illegal nation" had a Government (President Jefferson Davis); an army and a navy. The US is not at war with the nation of Afghanistan; the US is performing a "law enforcement" action in Afghanistan arresting or killing (destroying) terrorists. The US is NOT fighting an army, air force, or navy of another nation. And is not at war with the country of Afghanistan.
Operation Enduring Freedom was the U.S.-led offensive that was launched in October 2001.
