But seriously, arrogance and devoting too much confidence and resources to the Maginot Line - the wall of huge guns at the German-French border. Hitler simply avoided this obstacle and went around the side and came in the back door.

Blitzkrieg. It's hard to fight back when the invading enemy is everywhere and nowhere all at once, and manages to completely overrun your entire army in a few weeks.

Also, the collaboration of Petain's Vichy regime played no small part.

One huge factor is that before the Battle of France, the French and the Germans were waiting at the border, ready for combat. But, neither side made a move for a long while. Finally, after both sides had mostly let their guard down from being so 'bored', the Germans invaded and caught the French off guard. Once the Germans were in, it was an easy victory for them.
