Shakespeare is most known for the plays and sonnets he left behind. At the same time, he is known for his mastery of the English language, his command of the style of the English, and his dominance of the form of the English language. In other words, Shakespeare was a master of words. He is also known for his Biblical references. It is said that over 1200 references to The Bible have been found within Shakespeare's works. Here are a few examples: "There's a divinity that shapes our ends, Rough-hew them how we will; There is a special providence in the fall of a sparrow." (from Hamlet). This passage is showing the divinity of God. "Wisdom cries out in the streets, And no man regards it." (from Henry IV, Part I) This is a paraphrasing of Proverbs 1 from the Bible. "Therefore, friends, As far as to the sepulchre of Christ, Whose soldier now, under whose blessed cross We are impressed and engaged to fight... Holy fields Over whose acres walked thos blessed feet, Which fourteen hundred years ago were nail'd For our advantage on the bitter cross." (from Henry IV, Part I) This passage obviously talks about the crucifixion of Christ. I've given you enough quotes, so let me just summarize it now. Shakespeare is known as 1) A Master of Words and 2) The Bard of the Bible. All the work he left for us to enjoy.
Shakespeare's impact on the world was huge! He engaged man readers in his literature.
I wouldn't say that Shakespeare impacted the world. I'd say he impacted history.
He wrote about 37 or 38 plays, wrote many sonnets (a type of poetry, see Shakespeare's sonnets), helped establish the English language and created some names for his many plays.
Shakespeare's most famous plays are:
Hamlet
The Taming of the Shrew
Shakespeare wrote some thirty-eight plays, many of which are being performed every day and are being adapted as movies. He wrote a hundred and fifty-four sonnets, many of which are considered among the best in the genre. Many of the words and phrases that he coined and popularized are still in standard use, today, to the extent that people are unaware that they are constantly quoting Shakespeare when they speak.
Shakespeare's literary legacy is thirty-odd plays, several of which are among the best, and a hundred and fifty-four sonnets, among the best in the English language. He left the bulk of his personal effects to his daughters, including the second biggest house in Stratford, and left his wife his second best bed.
Shakespheare is remembered for his plays and sonnets
I think that the legacy that William Shakespeare left us is his beautiful plays and sonnets that he left us to cherish forever.
It's still going, stronger than ever.
