The purpose if this story is to help Christians learn what it means to "love your neighbor" by giving an example of the quote in action. It tell a story of how all of us should act towards our neighbor, whether they are our friend or adversary and if anyone is in need of care and attention we give or do what we can to help.

Jesus was trying to point out that even giving your entire life to God, is not important to him, it is kindness that he seeks for and that's what 'love your neighbor as you love yourself' is all about.

The Good Samaritan was kind and honest. He did the right thing for the right reasons. He helped the homeless man not because he wanted a reward in Heaven but because the man simply needed help and not to mention that the Samaritan was not religious, he was simply a good man who chose to do the right thing and this story teaches us to do the same thing.

I hope this helped xD
