Usually, it's an official document from the state where you were born: The hospital provides the information when the baby is born, and then a copy of the birth certificate is given to the parents; another copy is kept on file at the state's department of vital records.

Because they are issued by a government entity and can be verified.

How do you get a birth certificate?

The federal government does not provide copies of birth certificates, marriage licenses, divorce decrees, death certificates, or any other personal vital records. Copies of birth certificates and other personal vital records can only be obtained from the state or US possession where the documents were originally filed. Most states provide a centralized source from which birth certificates and other vital records can be ordered.

Is it true that if your birth certificate is not signed the government has to pay you 1 million dollars?

No, that statement is not true. The signing of a birth certificate does not determine any financial compensation from the government. Birth certificates serve as legal documents to establish identity and record vital information about a person's birth.

How do US government standards recommend that all birth and death certificates be completed?

Could you have a two birth certificates with different names?

Yes, I myself have two birth certificates. The first is where I was actually born, New York. The second birth certificate is from Mexico and was requested by my father after I was born (apparently this is okay since I am a child of a Mexican citizen and therefore considered to be a citizen by the Mexican government).
