Humans have three colour receptors in their eyes, and these are active over about half of an octave of frequency.

Some insects (e.g. butterflies) have several more colour receptors, and can see over a wider frequency range.

Dogs and cats have poor colour vision, for as scavengers, colour has not much evolutionary significance.

Birds have very good colour vision, for they must be able to distinguish ripe and unripe fruit.

Check the above out in wikipedia under colour vision.

What waves include the waves that your eyes see as different colors?

Visble Light

Why can you see light waves but not other electromagnectic waves?

Our eyes only perceive electromagnetic radiation within approximately 700nm to 400nm (the range of visible light) as light. That's the way our eyes are biologically coded.

Describe how the reflection of light waves enables you to see your image in a mirror?

When light waves hit a mirror, they bounce off at the same angle they hit the mirror's surface. This process, known as reflection, allows the light waves to maintain their original image as they bounce off the mirror and into your eyes. Your brain interprets the light waves that reach your eyes as an image, enabling you to see your reflection in the mirror.

Why do eyes see the color red?

You perceive the electromagnetic waves from visible spectrum or light rays. When the light rays of higher wavelength enters your eyes, you see the red color.

What is an example of electromagnetic waves that you can see with human eyes?

Visible light. (eg sunlight).

Describe how the reflection of light waves enables you to see your image in the mirror.?

The light then reflects off the mirror into the eyes.

What are 2 examples of waves you can see?

Two examples of waves you can see are ocean waves, which are formed by wind blowing over the surface of the water, and light waves, which allow us to see objects by reflecting off them into our eyes.

Why can't we see infrared waves?

Our eyes are not sensitive to infrared waves because the photoreceptors in our eyes are designed to detect visible light, which has a shorter wavelength. Infrared waves have longer wavelengths than visible light, so they are not detected by our eyes.

What type of EM waves do we see in the rainbow?

We see visible light waves in the rainbow, which are a portion of the electromagnetic spectrum. These waves are perceived by our eyes as various colors due to their different wavelengths.

When you see your image in a mirror what is bouncing back from the surface of the mirror?

Light waves are bouncing back from the surface of the mirror. These light waves carry the image of you that you see in the mirror by reflecting the light that hits the mirror back to your eyes.

How is it possible that we humans are able to see light waves that are way smaller than objects that don't produce light?

What is relevant in this case is the effect that the light produces in our eyes. If the light is absorbed by the pigments in our eyes, and produces some reaction, then we can see it.

Why do we see light waves but not rays eletromagnetic?

Light waves are what we physically perceive as light, while electromagnetic rays are conceptual constructs used in physics to analyze the behavior of light. The interaction of light with our eyes and surrounding environment allows us to detect and see light waves, but we do not directly see electromagnetic rays because they are not a tangible form of energy that we can visually perceive.
