Bruce McCandless (1937-2017) was a Space Shuttle astronaut who performed two of the first untethered spacewalks (EVAs) using the MMU, in 1984. He was on the Shuttle flight that launched the Hubble Space Telescope in 1990.
A Naval aviator, he graduated from the Naval Academy in the same class (1958) as John McCain.
