Jon Krakauer reached the summit of Mount Everest in 1996 during the well known storm that killed 15 climbers. He wrote a book about his climb called 'Into Thin Air'. It proved to be very popular but he got a lot of negative comments about it saying that some things he wrote were not true.
He famously quipped that he climbed it "because it was there"
