In the beginning the Ford Model T was a cheap car when compared to other cars of this class that were selling for $2,000 to $3,000. It was cheaper than the other cars being built at the time but still the average consumer could not afford one. The 1909 model sold for $850 ($22,000 in todays money). But the assembly line method of production, better efficiency, volume, and cost cutting by Ford allowed to price to be reduced to $260.
Between 1908 to 1927 over 15 million "T"s were built.
The Model T was made in Detroit.
The model were designated by letrers, beginning with model A. Not all models were ever put in production; some desighn models never made it into production but used up a letter. It was cheap, simple, and easy to repair.
The "S" was for "Supercharged." The S model from 2001 to 2006 had a supercharged engine made by Chrysler. Starting in 2007 the S model came with a turbocharged engine, now made by collaboration between BMW and Pugeot. The S model should be changed to T, but Mini stayed with the S to avoid confusion.
The model t was made for the general public. For the everyday man and to modernize the world.
