The North won the war!
Lincoln made the argument that the Emancipation Proclamation was a military necessity. Lincoln believed the proclamation would weaken the South.
It was the first Union win, following a string of defeats. This gave Lincoln the credibility to issue the Emancipation Proclamation, which made it impossible for Britain and France to continue with their plans toaid the South without looking pro-slavery themselves.
Britain and France had to give up their plans to support the Confederates - it would have made them look pro-slavery themselves.
it made it ok for the Union soldiers to free slaves as they went through the south
The catholics were better off, cause of their religion and the emancipation they made
The Emancipation Proclamation which freed African slaves- the Emancipatioon Proclamation stated that any land ( the south) that was not part of the Union had to free its slaves. Obviously the south did not listen to the President of a different country. Abraham Lincoln made the Emancipation Proclamation to get the North on his side. it did not free any slaves.the emancipation proclamaton

The Northern government - because they no longer had to worry about Britain and France aiding the South. (After the Proclamation, it would have made them look as though were pro-slavery.)
The Union. It was a very signficant victory for the North - their first for months. It enabled Lincoln to issue the Emancipation Proclamation, without making it seem like a desperate measure. The result was that Britain and France had to drop their plans to aid the South - it would have made them look pro-slavery themselves.
