After the victory over Confederate forces at Chattanooga in November 1863, President Lincoln was convinced that the Union finally had a general who could crush the Confederates. In March of 1864 Lincoln brought Grant to Washington and gave him command of all Union armies.

The civil war was not called Reconstruction. Recontruction happened after the war was over and lasted until 1877 when the Union soldiers finally left the last states that were being reconstructed from the war.

The Cold War began when the Iron Curtain came down in Eastern Europe, as the Soviet Union made so many countries "Soviet satellites". The United States wanted all European countries to have the freedom to choose their own governments. Then the Soviet Union successfully developed their own atom bomb. The war of words between the two nations escalated. The words were the "weapons". No shooting. A "cold" war, not a "hot" (active, shooting) war.

In the beginning of the war, yes. Both the Union and Confederate sides originally were made up of volunteers. Yet, as the war dragged along, both sides drafted. In fact, New York City had riots over the draft.
President Lincoln was assassinated because he was the leader of the union, the Americans who fought against slavery in the civil war. After the union won the war some people from the opposing side got mad at him for leading the union to victory.
