Antarctica is an environment which is unique on our planet. It is a special wilderness which is worth preserving.

It is very cold (coldest place on Earth) and the only continent or major land mass inside the Antarctic Circle. It is also the only continent covered -- 98% -- by ice.

Antarctica is also the only continent on the planet that has not been claimed as an official territory of any country.

It has no permanent population, there are no countries, there is an International Treaty governing its use and management, no lakes, no rivers, no mining, no significant vegetation, it does not rain, it is permanently covered in an ice pack up to 4 Km thick, it has the coldest recorded temperature anywhere in the world (-89.5 C), it has katabatic winds reaching to 320 kph and, it was the last continent to be discovered and have anybody set foot on it. Apart from all that, it is pretty ordinary.
