Apollo 16 was distinguished as being the first (and only) mission to use the moon as an astronomical observatory. The crew used the a camera/telescope combination known as the Far Ultraviolet Camera/Spectrograph and was used to take pictures of stars in the UV spectrum, a task difficult from Earth.
16 was also one of the most difficult landings, the first mission to land in the lunar Highlands rather than on the relatively flat Mare regions.
Apollo 16 was launched on April 16, 1972.
Apollo 11 went to the moon in 1969 so it is now 52 years.
Apollo 11 was launched on 16/7/1969.
