Cause Hurricane Katrina hit in that state, and because there has been a lot of history in that state. Although they did not originate the celebration of Mardi Gras, the celebrations of that festival in Louisiana are among the more celebrated in the world. Louisiana is unusual among American states in that it was originally a French colony, and many of its local customs and words are derived from the French.
