You might check the idler pulley. My car is in the shop right now...thought it was the timing belt, but it turns out the idler pulley was the actual problem. Hope this helps.

The screeching noise while stopping or starting up on a Daewoo Lanos 1.6 engine is often caused by worn or loose serpentine or accessory belts. These belts can slip on the pulleys, especially under load, leading to a screeching sound. Additionally, issues with the brake system, such as worn brake pads or rotors, can also contribute to similar noises when engaging or disengaging the brakes. Regular maintenance and inspection of the belts and brakes can help identify and resolve the issue.
there the same engines as a kia
Daewoo makes their own cars. It is an auto manufacturer in Korea that had been making cars for major companies for years, such as the 1994 Chevy Lamons. They decided to make cars under their own name. In 2000, while in bankruptcy, GM bought them. They a now a division of GM. They still produce Daewoo cars, but they are not sent to the USA.

ECM in a Daewoo refers to the Engine Control Module, which is an essential component of the vehicle's engine management system. It monitors and controls various engine functions, including fuel injection, ignition timing, and emissions control, to optimize performance and efficiency. The ECM receives data from various sensors and makes real-time adjustments to ensure smooth operation and compliance with emission standards. If issues arise, the ECM can trigger diagnostic trouble codes for troubleshooting.

The same way you set the timing of any Z24 engine. The vehicle it is in makes no difference. Do you know how to use a timing gun.
