An angiosperm, or flowering plant, such as the Christmas cactus [Schlumbergera and Zygocactus spp] is unusual, because of its native environment. The holiday cactus is native to the Brazilian rain forest. The extreme environment of subtropical and tropical environments demands certain changes for a plant to survive. So, for example, the holiday cactus has airy roots that don't grow out of soil. It also has green or red grape like inedible fruit that mustn't be bitten into, chewed, or swallowed. Also, it has strongly colored flowers that are set off by leafless, notched stems. And despite the preceding environmentally influenced peculiarities, it has winning tendencies to adapt and fit right into the business and home with other house and office plants.
Its national coat of arms, which shows an eagle perched on a cactus with a serpent in its mouth.
