Federal Laws and the federal constitution super cedes the states.
The legislative branch of government makes the federal laws and state laws.
Huh? The "group" that makes federal laws, is the U.S. Congress.
The Legislative Branch of the United States Federal Government makes the laws. The Senate and the House of Representatives (Congress) make up the Legislative Branch.
Calhoun believed in states rights above all. He espoused the doctrine of nullification which meant that states could nullify or reject Federal Laws they did not want to obey. He also thought states had the right to leave the federal union if they wished.
- Congress - Senate - House of Reprensentative - U.S. or national legislature
The federal is like all of the states. Example: Federal laws are passed down to the 50 states.
This championed states rights and questioned the legality of applying some federal laws in the states.
it is like if one state makes a law an other state does not have to allow itA good example is the United States. The Federal level is composed of the President, the Congress, and the Supreme Court. While Federal Laws do not automatically trump what the states do, they can if state law conflicts with Federal law. This is why slavery and segregation are no longer legal... the Federal government has forbidden the states to have laws allowing for it. Nor can states print their own money or set up tolls on borders to other states.
The first layer is federal gun laws. From there State laws can restrict gun laws more, but not make them more liberal. From there County laws/ordinances can restrict more so, but not make them more liberal. <><><> Above is correct, but with an exception- Many states have enacted "preemption" statutes, to prevent a "patchwork quilt" of gun laws that vary dramatically city to city, county to county. In those states, the State Legislature preempts the ability of a county to pass gun laws, reserving that right to itself.
