Honestly, a lot of what makes a graphic designer successful, is much the same as in any other business. There are a few key things that will help the graphic designer, specific to this field, though.
- Listening - Listen to what your client needs. Many times, a client has preconceived notions about what can and can not be done.
- Suggest - Use your experience to suggest solutions to your customer
- Leave Your Ego At The Door - Graphic design is all about art- as such, many times we get hurt if you don't like our work. As a GD you have to be able to be a pro and handle rejection. It is just a reality. The faster you learn that, the better off you'll be.
Those are the top three things that can make you a successful Graphic Designer. Of course, keeping to good common sense always helps!
