Air becomes more or less dense relative to its temperature. Cold air is denser than warm. Since the equatorial region is tropical, the air will be warmer and less dense.

Heavy rainfall makes water less dense because an increase in salinity leads to an increase in density. Rain does not contain any salt. Therefore heavy rainfall makes ocean water less dense. =)
If a balloon is filled with a substance that's less dense than air ... such as helium, hydrogen, steam, or warmer air ... then the balloon is less dense than air.
Heat makes air less dense and therefore rise.
Because the molecules in cold air are more tightly packed together than warm air.
It's less dense than water.
Rotation.
Dense
the air is warmer because the sun's rays hit the equater more directly and because it is warmer it becomes more dense

Yes. By definition, most gases are less dense than most solids. i can't think of a counter example. Plus, the gas inside a hot air balloon is superheated to make it even less dense, as heating things makes them less dense
